In April 2017, Code Club Bangladesh helped to organise a pioneering national children’s coding festival for the very first time in the country. With support from the CSE department at University of Dhaka, young students aged 7-13 from across Bangladesh were set a fun challenge to create their own animations and games using the Scratch coding platform and code club’s various project resources.
The students received instructions on how to upload their projects on to the Code Club Bangladesh website and a committee of professors from the CSE Department at the University of Dhaka helped to pick the best entries, which were judged on the student’s creativity and understanding of coding and programming concepts such as variables, sequence, selection, and repetition.
A final awards ceremony day was organised for 54 finalists and their families at the University of Dhaka and 10 young winners were finally crowned NCCF 2017 Champions.
The winning students took home some great prizes and the remaining finalists price also received certificates to celebrate their achievement in reaching the final. They were encouraged to build on their leanings and to come back stronger in NCCF 2018.

Here are some quotes from the finals day:
“This initiative has allowed children to think creatively and we have received some great project entries. I can see that the youngsters feel more comfortable in using their new skills to solve computing problems and have been inspired to become digital creators too,” said Prof. Dr. Shabbir Ahmed, the President of the Computer Science Department, at the University of Dhaka.
“It’s great that we have been able to inspire the future generation of digital pioneers from Bangladesh. We are looking forward to reaching even more young students next year,” said Shajahan Miah, Founder of Code Club Bangladesh.
